CFA is running a large number of community education programs across Geelong, Surfcoast and Colac Otway (other areas) to assist people to prepare for the upcoming Fire Season.

During summer, there are many days of high fire danger and several days of extreme fire danger. Whether you live or holiday in high risk areas it is important to be alert and be prepared for this period as the risk of a bushfire starting and growing quickly is very high.

To find out more information about how bushfires start and to learn about preparing fro the coming fire season please come along to one of the many information sessions. The programs include...

Fire Ready Victoria (FRV) Preparedness Meetings and Community Meetings:

Interactive community meetings held on street corners or in local halls & fire stations that focus on basic bushfire behaviours, personal safety, house survival and recognition of local risk.

Bushfire Planning Workshops

Facilitated workshops are run in local communities to assist people to develop a bushfire survival plan. The workshops run for approximately 3.5 hours with lunch included (RSVP required on 1800 198 299).

Community Fireguard

Specially trained facilitator assist community groups to develop bushfire survival strategies that suit their lifestyle, environment and values.

Fire Danger Ratings (see below)

Every day during the fire season the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) forecasts an outlook of the Fire Danger Index (FDI) by considering the predicted weather. The Fire Danger Rating for each weather district is determined by the BoM in consultation with the fire agencies. Each of the Fire Danger Ratings has the recommended actions you should take on the table.

Additional information is also available on the CFA Website www.cfa.vic.gov.au or the Victorian Bushfire Information Line on 1800 240 667.
